What is the difference between a homeschool Co-Op, An Enrichment Program and a Microschool? And which one are you?
Typically a co-op is a group of families who come together and share the responsibility of teaching, organizing, and connecting. An enrichment program is usually there to offer supplemental classes and social opportunities, organized by one company or group rather than by the families themselves. A microschool looks more like a small private school, blending traditional schooling with personalized education. Ivory & Sage is a hybrid. Most of what we do is enrichment — hands-on classes, social meet ups, and community events, planned and run by our founder and usually set for certain ages. With the Explorers Program we also offer something closer to a microschool: a structured, ongoing program you enroll in for the year rather than a class you sign up for once. So you can use us either way. Come to a class here and there, or enroll in the Explorers Program and make us a regular part of your week — whichever fits your family.
What is Ivory & Sage Homeschooling?
Ivory & Sage Homeschool is a hands-on, family-centered program designed for those who believe in learning through doing. Rooted in sustainability, homesteading, and traditional skills, our program blends academics with practical, time-honored knowledge that fosters self-sufficiency, resilience, and a deep respect for the land.
What should I bring and how should I dress?
You should wear something comfortable that allows for easy movement, along with closed-toe shoes for safety. We also recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated and a small snack in case you get hungry. Each class will list any requirements for items you must bring from home.
How long are the classes?
Each class will differ in length. Please see specific offerings for length.
Am I required to take classes or can I just come to meet ups?
No! There is no class requirement! This is an interest based program, meaning take and attend what interests you and your family!
Do you take Step-Up?
We do! Please reach out for instructions on how to reserve funds for classes!
Is this a drop off program or can parents stay?
Most of our offerings parents are required to stay! We do offer a few options for drop off however we encourage parent involvement.
Do you offer refunds for absences?
Non-refundable fees are due at the start of each session. Fees cover numerous items such as materials, copies, supplies, refreshments (if applicable), insurance fees, and other miscellaneous costs which are often incurred ahead of time based upon registrations. For those reasons, class fees are wholly non-refundable for any reason. We encourage you to ensure your availability for the program dates, class date, or event date you are considering. Thank you so much for your understanding. If your child is sick or will miss a class for another reason, let us know and we will be more than happy to work with you! Unfortunately, we can’t offer makeup days or refunds once the class is paid. If that specific class is being held again however we will offer you any spots available after the cutoff sign up date.
What is your class cancellation policy?
To provide the best experience for all participants, class sizes are limited and spaces are reserved in advance. If you are unable to attend a class, we kindly ask that you provide at least 48 hours’ notice by email or phone. While class fees are non-refundable, timely notice may allow us to offer a class credit that can be applied to a future class, at our sole discretion. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the scheduled class, as well as no-shows, are not eligible for credits, transfers, or refunds. Class registrations are non-transferable unless approved in advance. If Ivory & Sage cancels a class: Occasionally we may need to cancel or reschedule a class due to weather, low enrollment, instructor illness, or other circumstances beyond our control. If we cancel and can’t offer a suitable alternative date, you’ll receive a full class credit toward a future class. If a class is rescheduled and you can’t attend the new date, we’ll issue a class credit. We aren’t responsible for incidental costs (such as travel) related to a cancelled or rescheduled class.
Do you have health, safety, and conduct policies?
Yes. Our Program Policies cover health & safety (illness, allergies, medication, emergencies, and pick-up), special medical and mental-health needs, supervision & drop-off (a parent must remain on-site for Toddler and Pre-K programs; Elementary and older children may be dropped off), and a code of conduct (including responsibility for property damage and an assumption of risk for hands-on activities).
